January 10, 2010 - "CodeRed Emergency Notification System" by Ancil Jones

Early this morning the state port at Morehead City, NC experienced an incident in which some shipping containers were damaged during handling creating a HAZMAT situation. After the situation was evaluated and measures implemented, phone calls were received at residences and business throughout Carteret county and cell phones of those who signed up for the service informing us of the current situation. I so not reside in Carteret county, but I did sign up for the service when it came on line a couple of years back. I was very suprised as this was the first call I had received and now know it works.

This program is designed to inform the community of HAZMAT situations, weather, missing children, school lockdowns and any other local emergency.

Stop by www.codered.net for more information on the emergency communication system. Sign up for notifications at Carteret County Community Sign Up.

You may also want to check out Carteret County Emergency Services for more information on local services and information of services provided by the local government.

Thank you for stopping by. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance. Thank you again and God bless.

March 31, 2009 - "A Piece of Cake" by Ancil Jones

This afternoon will be a memorable event for "A Piece of Cake" Owner and Proprietor Ms. Tracy McNemar. Although she opened her shop several months ago, this afternoon is her Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony provided by the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce.

Ms McNemar moved to 6919 Hwy 70 E. , Suite E, Newport, NC 28570 after out-growing her home kitchen. Ms. McNemar produces quality products (for which I can atest as I have utilized her services on more than one occasion and have eaten more than a few of her products.)

Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins and much more. Stop by for a cup of coffee, a scone or muffin and sit for a few minutes to forget the traffic. The cakes she creates from this shop are absolutely fantastic, works of art. She can create a cake for any occasion from her imagination or by specific order. I think you will be impressed. They taste great as well.

Stop by this afternoon at 1630 (430p), sample some of her products and see the edible art work that she creates.

Thank you for stopping by. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance. Thank you again and God bless.

March 18, 2009 - NC Residential Wind and Hail Insurance

In my role as a community educator, North Carolina has an Insurance Commissioner that regulates the rates we pay for insurance to keep the insurance companies in check. Using questionable speculative information provided by the insurance companies, significant changes went into effect in February 2009. We payed a flat rate deductible for wind and hail but now we pay a 2% deductible. For example, a thunderstorm causes wind damage in Raleigh and that same storm hits the Coast – Raleigh residents might only have to pay $500 and for the same storm damage here – it’s $10,000 on a $500,000 house. $500 vs. $10,000 for thunderstorm damage.

For more information on the impending insurance rate changes, go to News Letter for a press release from NC20 or keep current by visiting www.nc-20.com.

Thank you for stopping by. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance. Thank you again and God bless.

March 11, 2009 - Chick Fil-A Morehead City Ribbon Cutting

Chik Fil-A has been spreading the joy of their food about for about a week providing food to local business and events as well as having some events of their own. At 0630 this morning the Chick Fil-A "Tent City" sprung to life. The first 100 people through the door Wednesday morning at 0630 will receive a coupon book with 52 coupons for a free "meal" every week for one year. The first 100 customers are camped in the parking lot and are being cared for by Chick Fil-A with food and events/games.

The Ribbon Cutting that took place at about 1200 today was by invitation only with officials of the town of Morehead City and and surrounding areas, officials from Chick Fil-A and Ambassadors of the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony was with the Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer lead by a Boy Scouts from a local troop. The "Cows" were represented both big and small and the pledge to "Eat More Chicken" was honored. Food samples were plentiful as well as the friendly conversation by the staff and official representatives of Chick Fil-A.

Chick Fil-A has a reputation for community and spiritual involvement and are a welcome addition to the towns and communities of Morehead City, Newport, Beaufort, Atlantic Beach and other communities in the vicinity. One last thing I would like you to remember is that Chick Fil-A franchises area locally owned and operated. The owner of the Morehead City Chick Fil-A and his family relocated here from Raleigh. Stop in and say "Hi", welcome them to the area and enjoy some good food while your at it.

Here a couple of pictures to highlight the event:

March 7, 2009 - Chick Fil-A Now in Morehead City

Chik Fil-A is now definitely in Morehead City. There had been some confusion in the past but no more. The Grand Opening of Chick Fil-a will be on Thursday, March 12, 2009. This store is located at 5156 Hwy 70 West, Morehead City, NC. Since the opening of the first Chick-Fil A in 1946, they have always been closed on Sunday. The founder, Truett Cathy believes that all of the Chick Fil-A family have time to rest, spend time with family and friends and worship if they choose to do so.

Chick Fil-A also believes in community involvement and has become a member of the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce. With this in mind, join them on Thursday, March 12, 2009 for their Grand Opening. Bring a friend, enjoy the food, fun and fellowship while welcoming a new member of the community.

My Role as a REALTOR?

My role as a REALTOR is to educate the Buyer, the Seller and the community. Real estate is a fluid market with many aspects changing continuously. Misinformation and confusion abound in today’s slowing residential and commercial property sales. I provide accurate and timely information on the local market and financing options. I FACILITATE your transaction to close through education and negotiation. There are many facets incorporated to provide a smooth, legal and mutually beneficial real estate transaction. As a Realtor, I work with these on a daily basis. I am responsible for the welfare of my client, Buyer or Seller.

Mortgage Tips!

The current mortgage situation is not as sullen as the media makes it sound. The money is available to those that can actually afford a mortgage payment. The local home-town banks were not affected by the crisis because they did not participate in the same lending practices the larger companies did. Rates below 5% can be found for those that qualify.

    -   Your credit score is still considered, although there is much more underwriting research performed in each decision now.

    -   Shop your mortgage. Once your credit has been checked, there is a 30 day window in which checks for other mortgage companies will not effect your credit. Shop at least three companies to get the best deal and make an informed decision. Contact me for more information and a lost of mortgage lenders.
